Additive manufacturing in the aerospace market is expected to reach $6.75 billion by 2026. The key driver is contributed by the growing demand for lightweight 3D printed components required for aircraft engines.

Additive manufacturing is not new. However, it is only in recent years that the technology has advanced to a stage for aerospace applications. More and more aircraft makers are embarking on the 3D printing journey which offers design freedom, reduces costs and weight.

In order to move additive manufacturing forward, the industry needs innovative material development and harmonised standards for quality control.
