As climate change continues to negatively impact our daily lives in virtually every region of the world, the concepts of sustainability and corporate responsibility are increasingly becoming the primary agenda topic in Board of Director meetings, regardless of industry.

While aviation has historically been quite successful in leveraging technology to reduce its contributions to climate change, clearly there is more to do. More recently, technological advancements in aircraft/engine design and manufacturing, alternative jet fuels, airport and air traffic management, and maintenance practices have sustainability as part of its core value proposition.

This panel of aviation experts will take a deep-dive into the challenges and opportunities within sustainable aviation including regulatory regimes, technology innovation, R&D collaborations with the ultimate goal of achieving net-zero emissions.

In this panel, McKinsey joins hands with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) leaders to explore the pivotal role of SAF in reducing the aviation sector’s carbon footprint and identify the key factors for achieving sustainable aviation through SAF. Drawing on insights from McKinsey and other SAF leaders, the discussion will centre on the challenges that hinder wider SAF adoption, such as cost, production scalability, technology, feedstock availability, consumer behavior; the need for industry-wide cooperation to overcome these obstacles; and the financial implications of SAF initiatives, considering mandates, subsidies, sourcing strategies, and customer contributions.

The panel will spotlight vital initiatives such as sustainable aviation fuel, fleet modernization, advanced propulsion technology, and enhancements in operational efficiency.
