Dr James WANG 

Professor, MAE Department, Nanyang Technological University and Director of eVTOL Research and Innovation Centre

Dr. James Wang, Director of the eVTOL Research & Innovation Centre and a professor at Nanyang Technological University, enjoys teaching Aircraft Performance and Aircraft Design to inspire the next generation of engineers. His motto is “If it can be dreamt, it can be built.”

In 2013, WIRED Magazine named Dr. James Wang “the Steve Jobs of Rotorcraft” for his ability to think “outside the box” for inventing the world’s first all-electric VTOL (vertical take off and landing) aircraft, the AgustaWestland Project Zero, that sparked the imagination and the race to develop Advanced Air Mobility. Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. Wang held several executive leadership positions and has 30 years of experience in aerospace and high-tech industries; including as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Vice President of R&D at Leonardo Helicopters and led Strategic Sales and worked on numerous famous helicopter designs at Sikorsky Aircraft.

Dr. Wang is an internationally renowned expert in manned/unmanned eVTOL aircraft and helicopter designing and operation. His expertise spans across technology and business in the aviation and eVTOL industry and his advice is highly sought after.

He received Bachelor’s degrees in Aeronautical, and Electrical Engineering from M.I.T., PhD in Aerospace from the University of Maryland, and a Master’s from the MIT Sloan Business School. Dr. Wang holds many patents and major international awards including these distinguished awards: Royal Aeronautical Society Fellow and Gold Team Award, VFS Honorary Fellow, Grover Bell Award, UTC George Mead Gold Award, NASA Research Award, and the Italian National Innovation Grand Prize.
