Sal Arora is a Sr. Partner in the Hong Kong office of McKinsey and Company. Sal leads McKinsey’s global and Asian Travel, Logistics and Infrastructure (TLI) practice and works with clients on broad-based transformations by leveraging the power of digital and analytics to generate bottom-line impact and build sustainable capabilities. Sal has broad client service experience across the travel sector including Airlines, Aviation Services, Rental Cars, Hospitality and Cruise Lines.
Recent client work includes:
- Led comprehensive cost and productivity assessment at a major U.S. airline, defining $1B+ in potential cost opportunities across a broad range of levers (front line staffing, procurement, SG&A)
- Led transformation of flight operations and pilot training at leading Asian full-service carrier leading to an 40% increase in throughput. Built a digital twin for the carrier to optimize and simulate pilot training needs in the future
- Led revenue and cost transformation at leading Asian full-service carrier, with focus on customer experience, network optimization and fuel efficiency
- Led comprehensive transformation plan at leading airlines catering companies, including focus on operations, commercial model and new revenue sources
- Led multiple diligences on aviation services companies with deep focus on air freight forwarding, cargo growth through advanced analytics, etc., to drive top-line growth and increase profitability
- Led a broad transformation for a leading cruise line focused on technical maintenance and procurement. Additionally, a significant focus was on change management. Total impact in the order of 10-15% of total spend
- Led a comprehensive operational and commercial transformation for a leading car rental company. Focus was on reducing direct labor cost through operational efficiencies, improving fleet management practices and pricing/revenue management. Total impact in excess of $450M
Before joining McKinsey, Sal worked as a process engineer at Dell, Inc. He evaluated operations strategies for Dell’s global fulfillment model and managed large capital projects that led to capacity, productivity, and quality gains.
Sal received a M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a minor in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also received a B.S. in Computer Engineering, summa cum laude from the Georgia Institute of Technology
